Bio: Ever since I can remember I have loved Little House on the Prairie, first the TV series and, later on, every single book I could find that had anything to do with Laura Ingalls and her family. This has led me to a growing admiration of the women who came before me, those like Laura's mother, Caroline, who was dressmaker, grocer, butcher, gardener, teacher and cook for her family, right through to my own grandmother, Vera, who fed, clothed and took care of her family all through the rationing of the second world war. These women inspire me, but not content to read about their lives, I like to try out some of the everyday skills they were so familiar with, but that we have almost lost entirely. Recently my husband and I fulfilled a dream and moved from the city to Exmoor National Park, where I have my own 'little house', so now, with more time and space available to me I plan to try out many more historical skills, and I thought you might be interested to see how they pan out.
